Welcome to Akashic Compass. Your privacy is a sacred trust. This Privacy Policy outlines how Akashic Compass ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, protects, and handles your personal information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
To provide our transformative services, we may collect the following types of information:
- Personal Identification Information: Your name and email address when you create an account or subscribe to our communications. You may also choose to upload a profile photo.
- Optional Profile Details: On your Profile page you may add a gender and a location. Gender is used for one purpose only: when the app generates artwork for you, it tells the image provider how a central human figure should be drawn, so that the picture matches you. It is sent as part of the picture description for that one generation and is used for nothing else — never for advertising, never to build a marketing profile, and never sold. Both fields are optional, and you can change or clear them at any time on your Profile page.
- User-Generated Content: Information you voluntarily provide within the app, including but not limited to journal entries for InnerScribe™, dream details for DreamCode™, life patterns for LifeMaps™, and queries entered into any of our nine realms. This data is the core of your personal experience.
- Voice Input: If you choose to speak a query instead of typing it, your device's own speech recognition converts your speech into text. On most Android devices this is a Google service, and your spoken audio is handled under Google's privacy policy rather than ours. We do not record, store, or transmit raw audio ourselves — we receive only the text your device returns. Dictation is entirely optional, and the microphone is active only while you are using the listening control.
- Almanac Location: The Almanac shows conditions for a place you choose yourself. We do not request or use your device's GPS location, and the app holds no location permission. When you search for a place, the text you type is sent to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim geocoding service to find matching coordinates. The coordinates you select are saved to your profile and sent to the weather, air quality, and astronomy sources listed in Section 6 so those readings can be calculated for that place.
- Technical & Usage Data: We may collect data about your device, operating system, and how you interact with our Service (e.g., feature usage, session duration) to improve functionality and user experience. This data is often collected in an aggregated or anonymized form.
- Crash Diagnostics: If the app crashes or hits an unexpected error, a diagnostic report is sent to Google Firebase Crashlytics containing the error, a stack trace, and basic device and operating system information. These reports exist so we can find and fix defects. They do not contain your journal entries or other User-Generated Content. We use Google Firebase Analytics to record which features are used and where people run into difficulty — for example, that a reading was generated, that a screen was opened, or that a purchase failed. It never receives your journal entries, dream narratives, or anything else you write, and it is never used for advertising or sold to anyone. We use no advertising or marketing software of any kind, and the app displays no advertising.
2. How We Use Your Information
Your information is used to facilitate your journey of self-discovery. Specifically, we use it to:
- Provide and Personalize the Service: To operate the nine realms of the app, generate AI-powered insights, and tailor your experience.
- Communicate With You: To send you welcome emails, app updates, and cosmic dispatches, as consented to by you.
- Improve and Develop the Service: We analyze anonymized and aggregated user data to understand how our Service is used, allowing us to enhance existing features and develop new ones. Your personal entries are never read by humans for this purpose without your explicit consent.
- Ensure Security: To protect the integrity of our Service and safeguard against fraud or misuse.
3. Data Security and Storage
Your account and your content are stored using Google Firebase — Firebase Authentication for sign-in, Cloud Firestore for your profile and journal entries, and Cloud Storage for any profile photo you upload — hosted on Google's cloud infrastructure. We implement robust security measures, including encryption for data in transit and at rest, to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. Your User-Generated Content is stored securely and is treated with the utmost confidentiality.
4. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. You may delete your account at any time, which will result in the permanent deletion of your associated Personal Identification Information and User-Generated Content from our active systems, subject to legally required archival needs.
You can delete your account in two ways:
- In the app: open your Profile page and select "Delete Account."
- From the web: use the contact form at akashiccompass.com, and include the email address on your account. We will verify the request and delete the account for you.
Deleting your account does not automatically cancel a Google Play subscription. Subscriptions are managed by Google Play and must be canceled there. Records of purchases and subscription payments may be retained by us and by Google Play where required for tax, accounting, and legal purposes.
5. Your Rights and Control
You have control over your personal data. You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: Rectify any inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Deletion: Request the deletion of your account and all associated data, or delete it yourself using either method described in Section 4.
To exercise these rights, please contact us at the email address provided below.
6. Third-Party Services and Data Sources
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal identification information to others, and we do not share it for advertising. We do rely on third-party providers to operate the Service. Each of them handles data under its own privacy policy, and we encourage you to review the policy of any service you would like to understand in more detail. They fall into three groups.
(a) Providers that handle your account or your content:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Crashlytics, Analytics, App Check) — sign-in, storage of your profile and journal entries, your profile photo, crash diagnostics, and protection against abuse of our servers.
- Google Play Billing — subscriptions and one-time query and image packs. Google Play processes your payment; we never receive or store your payment card details. Google Play reports your subscription status to us so the app knows what you have access to.
- OpenAI — the text you submit in a realm query is sent to OpenAI's API to generate the reflective response you receive. OpenAI states that data sent through its API is not used to train its models, and that API inputs and outputs are retained for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring and then deleted, unless a longer period is required by law. If you use Journey Timelapse, short excerpts of your own journal entries are additionally sent so a scene description can be written from them.
- Google Gemini — generates the artwork that accompanies readings, Sacred Perspectives, Spectra, Axion, Astral Sketch, and the Almanac. The image prompt is derived from your query, and includes the gender saved on your profile, if you have set one, so a human figure in the picture can be drawn to match you. Google's terms for the paid Gemini API state that prompts and responses sent through it are not used to train Google's models.
- fal.ai (Kling video model) — used only by Journey Timelapse, and only when you choose to create one. Nothing is sent to fal.ai unless you run that feature. When you do, a short, symbolic scene description written from your entries is sent to generate the video, and that description is deliberately written so that it does not reproduce your journal text. fal.ai states that request inputs and outputs are retained for 30 days by default before deletion.
- Our email delivery provider — sends verification, password reset, welcome, and support messages to the address on your account.
(b) Public data sources read by the Almanac. These receive the coordinates of the place you selected, and in some cases nothing at all beyond a general request. They receive no name, no email address, no account identifier, and none of your journal content:
- Open-Meteo — weather forecast, current conditions, air quality, and pollen.
- NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center — geomagnetic, solar wind, and Kp index readings.
- U.S. National Weather Service (weather.gov) — active weather alerts and tornado warnings.
- U.S. Geological Survey — the real-time earthquake feed.
- NASA EONET and NASA FIRMS — global natural event tracking and active fire detections.
- GDACS (Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System) — global disaster alerts.
- ReliefWeb (United Nations OCHA) — humanitarian disaster records.
- Smithsonian Institution Global Volcanism Program — weekly volcanic activity reports.
- NOAA Tsunami Warning Centers (tsunami.gov) — tsunami bulletins.
- Wikipedia — folklore, local lore, and place-related articles for the city you selected.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim — turns a place name you type into coordinates.
(c) Processing that happens only on your device. The app's English narrator voice is an open-source neural speech model (Kokoro) that runs entirely on your phone; text read aloud in English is not sent anywhere. Other languages use your device's built-in speech engine, which is governed by your device manufacturer's own terms.
6b. Health-Related Information — Separate Policy
Some realms (BodyScript, RootRemedy and LucidRest) invite you to describe how your body or mind feels. Laws in Washington, Nevada and Connecticut treat that as "consumer health data" and require it to be covered by its own separate policy, with its own separate consent. That policy is available in the app under Profile → Health-related reflections → Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy, and it governs that information instead of this document.
7. If You Are in the United Kingdom, the European Union or the EEA
The UK GDPR and EU GDPR give you specific rights, and require us to tell you certain things plainly. This section does that. Where it conflicts with anything else in this policy, this section governs for users in these regions.
Who is responsible for your data. OmniScrypt is the "data controller" for the information described in this policy. You can reach us using the contact details in Section 11.
Where your data is processed. Akashic Compass is operated from the United States, and the providers listed in Section 6 process data in the United States and other countries outside the UK/EEA. When your information is transferred out of the UK or EEA, that transfer relies on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum where applicable), which our providers incorporate into their terms, together with the technical measures described in Section 3.
Our legal basis for using your information. We do not rely on a single blanket permission. Each use has its own basis:
- To create and run your account, deliver the readings you request, and process your subscription — because it is necessary to perform our contract with you (Article 6(1)(b)).
- To send you password resets, verification emails and service notices — also contract performance.
- To keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, fix crashes and understand which features are used — because we have a legitimate interest in operating a functioning, secure product (Article 6(1)(f)). You may object to this at any time, and we will stop unless we have compelling grounds not to.
- To send you optional marketing or "cosmic dispatch" emails — only with your consent (Article 6(1)(a)), which you may withdraw at any time without affecting anything else.
- Health-related information you enter into BodyScript, RootRemedy or LucidRest is a special category of data under Article 9. We process it only on your explicit consent, given separately before you first use those realms, and you can withdraw that consent at any time from your Profile page.
Your rights. You have the right to: access a copy of your data; correct it; delete it; restrict how we use it; object to processing based on legitimate interests; receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format; and withdraw any consent you have given. You will never be charged or treated differently for exercising these rights.
You can act on several of these immediately, without contacting anyone. Your Profile page contains "Export My Data," which produces a portable copy, and "Delete Account," which permanently erases your account and everything in it. For anything else, use the contact details in Section 11. We will respond within one month, as the GDPR requires.
Automated decision-making. We do not make any decision about you by automated means that produces a legal or similarly significant effect. The AI generates reflective text for you to read; it does not decide anything about you, your access, or your treatment.
How long we keep your data. We keep it while your account exists, because your journal is the reason it exists. When you delete your account, it is removed from our active systems and purged from backups within 30 days, except records of purchases we are required to retain for tax and accounting purposes.
Complaints. If you believe we have mishandled your data, we would like the chance to put it right — please contact us first. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). In the EU it is the supervisory authority of the country where you live.
8. Age Requirement
Akashic Compass is intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account or use the Service. The Service is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a person under 18, we will delete that information and close the account promptly. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us using the details in Section 11.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and, where appropriate, through email. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
10. Governing Language
This document is originally written in English. Any translations into other languages are provided solely for your convenience. In the event of any conflict, ambiguity, or discrepancy between the English version and a translated version, the English version shall control and prevail.
11. Contact Us
